Installation Requirements


    For proper operation of Xen Backup certain minimum requirements must be met in each of the following elements: the computer with Xen Backup installed, XenServer (host) and virtual machines running on the host.


Xen Backup Computer

    This is the computer that runs the application. It takes care of backup tasks and hosts the storage media, that is, the destination where the virtual machine backups are stored.

    The requirements are:

1. Software:  ( 32bit and 64bit versions )

  • MS Windows ® XP Professional with Service Pack 2 or later.
  • MS Windows ® 2003 Server with Service Pack 1 installed or later.
  • MS Windows ® Vista.
  • MS Windows ® 7.
  • MS Windows ® 2008 Server.

2. Hardware:

  • Intel Pentium ® 1 Ghz or higher.
  • 1 Gb RAM.
  • Ethernet 100/1000 Mbps.
  • 200 Mb of available hard disk space for installation.

3. Supported storage media:

  • Local hard drives.
  • Network storage devices.
  • Storage devices USB 2.0/3.0 FireWire(IEEE-1394).
  • ZIP®, Rev® and other removable media.

Host or XenServer

    It is the physical server with Citrix® XenServer installed.

    The requirements are:

1. Software:

  • XenServer 5.0 (not compatible with non-stop service mode copies "Backup Live").
  • XenServer 5.5.
  • XenServer 5.6.
  • XenServer 6.0.2.
  • XenServer 6.1.
  • XenServer 6.2.

Virtual Machines

    These are the virtual machines to backup.

    The requirements are:

1. Software:

  • All operating systems compatible with the installed version of XenServer.
  • XenServer Tools must be installed.
  • For compatibility with Volume Shadow copy Service (VSS), install
    install-XenProvider of XenServer Tools.
